Bound by Zaehnsdorf in full brown calf, green morocco lettering piece to the spine, gilt coat-of-arms of Arundel Castle to upper cover, t.e.g. (lightly rubbed extremities, a few scratches to covers).

[BACON, Francis.] The Historie of the Reigne of King Henry the Seventh. Written by the Right Hon: Francis Lord Verulam, Viscount S. Alban. London: R.Y. and R.H. and are sold by R. Meighen, 1641. Third edition, folio (283 x 178mm.) Title with architectural woodcut border, woodcut initials and head and tail-pieces. (Title trimmed, lacking blanks and portrait frontispiece, occasional browning, and marginal damp-staining to several leaves.) Early 20th century red cloth (lightly rubbed, minor finger-marks, endpapers replaced). Provenance: Edward Thomas Chivers Bowers (bookplate to front pastedown).

ITALY. – Ferdinand ONGANIA. Calli e Canali in Venice… English Edition by F. Home-Rosenberg. Venice: 1899. 4to (240 x 182mm.) Additional title, 8pp. text leaves, 50 unbound photogravure plates of Venetian scenes. (Spotting to title and text leaves, occasional light spotting to plate margins.) Original tan cloth folding portfolio, gilt lettering (rubbing to extremities, light finger-marking). Note: Ongania was a Venetian publisher and bookseller who published out of his shop and gallery on Piazza San Marco.

(Lacking title and 11 plates, 2 with marginal tears and soiling, most with minor finger-marking, several loose plates, text-block split.) (Toning, spotting to preliminaries and light scattered spotting throughout, large damp-stain to lower margin of most plates, last text leaf and rear blank of vol. 2 detached.) Contemporary black morocco, blind-tooled crucifix to covers, g.e. (extremities rubbed, rear endpaper detached) (2).

Crispinus, 1620.] 4to (233 x 165mm.) Half-title, 2 parts in 1, woodcut initials and head and tail-pieces, text in Latin, some sections headed in Spanish, last leaf errata at kkkii. (Browning, light spotting throughout, lacking title and pp.1-4 and pp.13-16.) Contemporary vellum, manuscript lettering to spine (dust-soiled, small splits at spine ends). Note: first published in 1536, this list of prohibited works was revised by the Council of Trent and regularly updated until it was itself suppressed after the Vatican II in 1966. Provenance: C. Stratford (ink name to the half-title); Douai Bibliothèque Publique (stamps to the half-title).

CICERO, Marcus Tullius. Familiarium Epistollarum Libri XVl. Venice: 1552. 8vo (296 x 203mm.) Woodcut printer’s device to title, woodcut initials and headpieces, mostly triple-column text. (Title has part of the woodcut device excised to remove the nude figure, title and *ii loosened, marginal spotting and damp-staining until leaf E, last leaf Ii iiii2 [p.253] and lacking all after, 2 rear blanks replaced.) Contemporary vellum (dust-soiled, rubbed, lacking small area of spine panel). Provenance: ‘Monasterii Sanctae Mariae Novae Montis Regalis’ (name-plate verso title).
