INDIA. Illustrated Guide to the South Indian Railway including… Pondicherry, Travancore State, Peralam-Karaikkal and the Cochin State Railways. Madras: Hoe & Co., at the ‘Premier’ Press, 1913. 8vo (214 x 138mm.) Folding photographic frontispiece, numerous photographic illustrations, folding colour map in pocket to rear, errata leaf dated 1915. (Toning, scattered spotting and browning, some leaves loosening, text-block partially cracked at errata leaf.) Original red cloth, pictorial gilt and oval paper illustration mounted to upper cover (extremities lightly rubbed, slightly frayed to joints). Provenance: Kokil & Co., Bombay (stamp to initial blank). – And a further seventeen volumes related to India (including George F. Atkinson’s ‘Curry & Rice’, 1911, 4to, and R. Montgomery Martin’s ‘The Indian Empire Illustrated’, 43 issues, vols. 1-45 [lacking 40 and 43], [1858-1861], 8vo) (18).

GOULD, Robert Freke. The History of Freemasonry, It’s Antiquities, Symbols, Constitutions, Customs, Etc. Edinburgh: T.C. & E.C. Jack, [circa 1895]. 3 vols., 4to (282 x 216mm.) 36 colour plates with tissue-guards, 2 plates of ‘Seals’ and several folding charts. (Mild toning.) Original black morocco over blue cloth boards, Masonic design in gilt to upper covers, g.e. (extremities heavily rubbed, reference labels to spines). Provenance: Worthing Public Library (bookplate to front pastedown, stamps verso titles). – And a further seventeen volumes (including James Robinson Planchié’s ‘A Cyclopaedia of Costume’, 2 vols., 1876, 8vo, and Cyril Field’s ‘Britain’s Sea Soldiers, A History of the Royal Marines’, 2 vols., 1924, and the related volume ‘Britain’s Sea Soldiers, A Record of the Royal Marines During the War 1914-1919’, 1927, 4to, and ‘The Encyclopedia of Mormonism’, 4 vols., 1992, large 8vo) (20).
