A set of four George III Sheraton period fruitwood elbow chairs, the finely carved trellis backs above caned seats, fitted with loose cushions, raised on reeded tapering legs, each bearing a label of provenance to seat rail, detailed 'Purchased at the 'Orchardson' sale 13 Portland Place, May 24th 1910 (LOT 94)', height 84cm, width 54cm, depth 46cm (some faults and repairs). Note: the label relates to the estate sale of the noted Scottish artist Sir William Quiller Orchardson RA (1832-1910), held by Waring & Gillow Ltd. The original lot description states that 'one of these chairs is depicted in Sir W.Q. Orchardson's picture "Hard Hit"'.
