A fine 19th century Indo-Portuguese rosewood side table, profusely inlaid in ivory, green stained ivory, boxwood and brass with two deceptive cuboid reserves and overall foliage, plants and animals, the frieze fitted with two drawers and with applied gilt metal escutcheons, the legs carved as female herms terminating in block feet, the underside bearing printed paper label detailed 'A. Cezar Coelho & Cunha Com Officina de Marceneiro e Entalhador...', height 83.5cm, width 97cm, depth 53cm. Provenance: from the personal collection of the ceramic artist, the late Eric James Mellon (1925-2014). The table is accompanied by an original purchase receipt from 1950.
