LOT 1100
A fine Regency figured mahogany longcase regulator, the brass six-pillar jewelled movement with six-spoke wheelwork, deadbeat escapement with jewelled pallets, escape wheel arbor and pallet arbor, and maintaining power, all enclosed by screwed brass dust shutters, the silvered circular dial with subsidiary seconds and hours within the minute ring, inscribed 'Frodsham, London', above a steel and mercury compensated pendulum and silvered beat plaque, the hood with moulded swan neck pediment above a glazed circular door cornered with ebony stringing, the cut cornered trunk with glazed door above a base with applied mouldings and plinth, height approx 205.5cm, together with key and winder (minor faults). Provenance: this regulator was previously the property of Cecil [Sam] Clutton, leading antiquarian horologist, and on his death bequeathed to the current owner. Clutton was a founding member of both the Antiquarian Horological Society and The Vintage Sports Car Club, and also wrote various books, including collaborations with George Daniels.
