LOT 1040
A mid to late 19th Century French bronze, green marble and ormolu mantel clock with eight day movement striking on a bell via an outside countwheel, the back plate stamped 'Susse Fres a Paris', the white enamel circular dial with blue Roman numerals and similarly signed, the case with brown patinated bronze figural surmount modelled as a seated Sappho, cast signature 'J. Pradier' and Susse Fres to Stool, the green marble oval case with vertical fluting between cast ormolu beaded and foliate bands, on disc feet, height approx 41cm (bronze figure detached and minor faults). Note: Jean-Jacques Pradier (1790-1852) was a French sculptor best known as the creator of the figures of Fame in the spandrels of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Other works are exhibited in the Louvre Museum.
