A mid-Victorian Gothic Revival walnut-framed side chair, after a design by E.W. Pugin and probably manufactured by Charles Light, the chamfered bar back and centre rail above an overstuffed seat, raised on twin 'X'-frame supports united by chamfered stretchers, all with pegged joints, the front legs terminating in brass ball terminals, height approx 84cm, width approx 45cm. Note: a similar chair was designed by E.W. Pugin's father, A.W.N. Pugin, and an illustration similar to this example can be found in Charles and Richard Light's catalogue 'Cabinet Furniture: Designs and Catalogue of Cabinet and Upholstery Furniture, Looking-Glasses etc'.
