John Stanton Ward - Diana, Princess of Wales, and Anne, Princess Royal, two monochrome pen and inks, labels verso, 24.5cm x 19.5cm and 24cm x 15cm respectively, both within stained wood frames. Note: the Diana sketch was executed in the afternoon of 17th February for the gallerist Jeremy Maas. John Ward had painted his celebrated portrait of Diana (in the collection of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales) on the morning of 17th February and was demonstrating to Maas the composition of the painting. The Princess Anne sketch was executed on 3rd November 1987 as a study for the portrait in oils in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery. Provenance: from the estate of Jeremy Maas, thence by descent.
