LOT 3156
An 18th century turned, carved and painted wooden swivel-head doll with brown hair, black glass eyes, lined eyebrows emphasised by dots above and around the eyes, red painted lips and cheeks and jointed wooden body with stuffed cotton upper arms and wooden hands, height 50cm (faults, paint and gesso damage to the head and back, two fingers missing from right hand), wearing a purple silk dress with lace edging, stockings, undergarments and kid leather shoes (mould and other damage to the dress), together with a letter from the family stating it was bought new in Bath circa 1790 by Ann Gibbs with her uncle Admiral Gayton.
