Edward Charles Williams - 'Unloading a Collier, Night Scene Hastings', oil on canvas, signed and dated 1857, titled label verso, 98cm x 158cm, within a swept gilt composition frame. Note: this work was exhibited at the National Institution in 1857 and reviewed in the Art Journal the same year, 'the interest of the scene is in the description of the rising moon… with surprising reality of effect'.
