FIRST WORLD WAR. L'Alsace et Les Combats des Vosges. Clermont-Ferrand: Michelin, 1920. 2 vols., 8vo (208 x 132mm.) Numerous illustrations. (Toning to margins.) Original card covers, gilt lettering to upper covers (bumped to extremities, some browning), printed wrappers (browning, minor soiling, price stamped). - And thirty further volumes of Michelin Guides to the battle-fields of the First World War (including 'The Marne Battle-fields', 1917, 8vo) and two other Michelin Guides. Note: first published before the end of hostilities, the Michelin Guides to the battle-fields proved to be useful for the bereaved families of the war, enabling them to visit the sites and begin grieving, often without a corpse to bury (34).
