LOT 1185
A Regency mahogany bracket timepiece with brass four pillar eight day single fusee movement, the painted circular dial with Roman numerals and inscribed 'JNo Pace Bury', the brass inlaid case with pineapple finial above brass edged recessed panels to front, flanked by a pair of gilt brass loose ring handles and pierced scale fret panels to sides, on a plinth base and brass ball feet, height 49cm, with pendulum and winding key. Note: John Pace (1783-1867) was born in Whitechapel, London, and hailed from an eminent Quaker family of clock and watchmakers. He is recorded as working in Bury St Edmunds from 1804 until 1855. He is best known for his inventive designs and for creating elaborate skeleton clocks, including two exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition.
