							LOT 1256
                An Italian maiolica syrup or wet drug jar, probably Venetian, late 16th century, painted in dark blue on a berettino ground with a label inscribed 'MOSTO.COTTO', above a figure of a female saint, perhaps St Lucia, flanked by the initials 'SM', against a ground of fruiting scrolling foliage, height 21cm (minor faults). Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey.
