LOT 1163
A George III oak longcase clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the 12-inch brass breakarch dial with matt centre, subsidiary seconds and date aperture, framed by a chapter ring with Roman hours and outer Arabic minutes, beneath a boss to arch inscribed 'Robt Dawson Alford', the hood with pagoda top and glazed door, above an arched trunk door, fluted corner columns and plain base, on bracket feet, height 214cm, with pendulum and two weights (faults and alterations). Note: Robert Dawson is recorded in 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' by Brian Loomes as working in Alford, Lincolnshire, in the late 18th century.
