LOT 1194
A mid-18th century oak longcase clock with thirty-hour movement striking on a bell via an outside countwheel, the 10-inch square brass dial with single hand and silvered chapter ring framing a matt centre, engraved with a bird and inscribed 'Jno Inkpen Horsham', cornered with cast and pierced gilt spandrels, the hood with moulded pediment, glazed door and turned columns, the trunk with arched door, plain base and plinth, height 200cm, with pendulum and weight (faults and alterations). Note: John Inkpen is a recorded Horsham clockmaker. He was born circa 1700, took apprentice John Newnham in 1726 and was married in 1735 to Elizabeth Muzzle at Bolney. He died in 1759.
