A rare and important presentation mameluke-hilted sword, presented to Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Balfour Haig C.M.G., C.V.O. by Prince Alfred, second son to Queen Victoria, the blade by Wilkinson of curved form, blade length 74cm, detailed '13613' and dated '1865', the hilt with fire gilt crossguard and ivorine grips, with original polished steel scabbard (overall restoration). Provenance: Bosleys Military Auctioneers, 14th June 2006, Lot 1083.
