Ernest Forbes - 'Augustus Enthroned' (Barney Seale sculpting the head of Augustus John), early 20th century oil on canvas, signed recto, titled, and additionally signed by Augustus John verso, 60.5cm x 50cm, within a painted and gilt composition frame. Note: this painting was reproduced as a full-page colour illustration in 'The Sketch', 25th November 1936, p.349. Seale's bust of Augustus John was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1937. This lot relates closely to Lot 2600 in our sale on 8th September.
