"George Romney - Study of a Seated Lady, 18th century pen and brush with ink over pencil on laid paper, 20.5cm x 19cm, within a gilt frame. Note: this composition was inspired by the 'Weeping Dacia' sculptural relief now in the Capitoline Museum, Rome, and formed a reference point for many of Romney's 50"" x 40"" portraits of women in the late 1770s, such as the portrait of Mrs John Birch now in the collection of the Phoenix Art Museum, Arizona, USA.
