LOT 125
Attributed to Thomas Lawrence - Half Length Portrait of John Bolden, Esq (1776-1855) M.A. of Hyning Hall, Lancashire, wearing a White Stock, Red Scarf and Dark Green Jacket, early 19th century oil on canvas, 74.5cm x 62cm, within a swept gilt composition frame. Provenance: by family descent from the sitter. Note: the sitter was previously thought to be William Bolden (1803-1895) of Hyning Hall. The costume, however, would suggest an earlier date to that of his father, John, a notable Shorthorn cattle breeder, who was born John Lennard in 1776. The surname Bolden was adopted in 1800 after the death of his maternal uncle.
