LOT 1271
A late George III oak and crossbanded mahogany longcase clock with thirty hour movement striking on a bell via an outside countwheel, the 12-inch square painted dial with date aperture and inscribed 'Monkhouse Carlisle', the hood with moulded pediment, turned columns and glazed door, the case with arched trunk door, cut corners and bracket feet, height 206cm, with pendulum and weight. Note: John Monkhouse is a recorded Cumberland clockmaker working in Carlisle between 1790-1819, before possibly moving to work in Darlington.
