CHEMISTRY. – Samuel PARKES. The Chemical Catechism, with Notes, Illustrations, and Experiments. London: for the Author, 1812. Fifth edition, 8vo (212 x 126mm.) Engraved folding frontispiece, index, 1p. publisher’s advertisements to rear. (Spotting to frontispiece, offsetting to title, toning.) Contemporary diced calf (joint splitting, extremities heavily rubbed). Provenance: Marian Sedgwick (ink name to initial blank); Edward Braxton Reynold (bookplate to front pastedown). – And a further thirteen volumes related to chemistry and mineralogy (including Andrew Ure’s ‘A Dictionary of Chemistry’, 1821, 8vo, and Thomas Graham’s ‘Elements of Chemistry’, 1842, 8vo, and Prof. Plattner and Sheridan Muspratt’s ‘The Use of the Blowpipe’, 1854, 8vo) (14).
