A rare Banco de Portugal progressive die proof engraver's test strike for the obverse of a one thousand escudos banknote, circa 1982, in blue/black as later issued with portrait vignette of Dom Pedro V to centre, value in large script to lower left, on oversized paper/card, together with fifteen die proof engraver's test strike vignettes of Dom Pedro V, colour trials from black to blue/black on paper/card with near full-plate margins, two mounted on card (all extremely fine). Provenance: from the personal archive of the late Alan Dow, master banknote engraver to Bradbury Wilkinson & Co and the Bank of England.
