LOT 1170
A mid-18th century cased bracket clock, the eight day twin chain fusee movement with verge escapement, pull quarter repeat on a nest of six bells and striking hours on a larger bell, the backplate with foliate scroll engraved decoration, the 8-inch brass breakarch dial with silvered strike/silent indicator above a silvered chapter ring with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes, framing a matt brass centre with mock pendulum aperture and date aperture, cornered with gilt mask and scroll spandrels, beneath a silvered boss to arch inscribed 'William Gibbs London', the case with bell top and brass carry handle above glazed sides and front and back doors, on a moulded rectangular plinth base, height 54.5cm, with case, key and winder. Note: William Gibbs is a recorded London clockmaker working between 1730 and 1766.
