An interesting 19th century African Zulu war shield and spear, the back bearing an applied label, inscribed 'This Zulu shield was picked up near the body of Prince Imperial and among other trophies was brought to England by the officers of the 9th Regiment of Foot', length of shield 73cm. Note: Prince Imperial appears to refer to Louis-Napoléon, the only child of Napoléon III, who died in a 'skirmish' in Zululand, whilst fighting for the British Army in 1879.
