WILKES, David. A General View of the Stage. London: for J. Coote and W. Whetstone, 1759. First edition, 8vo (199 x 128mm.) Title with engraved sepia vignette. (Spotting to title and scattered thereafter, last five leaves with marginal insect-damage.) Contemporary calf-backed boards, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (hinges weakened, extremities rubbed). Note: scarce. With chapters on ‘how an actor ought to form himself’, farce, opera, Irish theatre, modern theatre, and ‘Garrick’s different excellencies’.
