HAYLEY, William. The Triumphs of Temper. A Poem: In Six Cantos. Chichester: by W. Mason, 1809. New edition, inscribed by William Hayley, 8vo (164 x 94mm.) Half-title. (Marginal offsetting and spotting to rear leaves.) Contemporary full calf, morocco lettering piece to the spine (spine rubbed). Note: the inscription reads: ‘To Peter Emery from the author, Felpham 1819’. Hayley wrote the first biography of his friend George Romney and was a great patron of an artistic circle that included William Blake and Charlotte Smith. Provenance: Peter Emery (inscribed to from the author in ink on the first blank); Eliza Cave (gift inscribed to from Peter Emery in ink on the second blank); West Sussex County Library (labels to pastedowns, stamps verso title).
