LOT 59
Attributed to Jacques-Émile Blanche (French 1861-1942) - Full-length portrait, identified as 'Marie', seated in an interior on a pierced gothic design stool, wearing an ivory silk dress with layered lace collar, blue socks and black patent shoes, oil on canvas, 123cm x 93cm, within a reeded gilt frame. Provenance: purchased by the Swedish grandparents of the vendor when they married in Paris in 1910. It is believed the portrait was purchased directly from the artist and is anecdotally identified as Marie Blanche, the artist's daughter, however Blanche is recorded as being childless and homosexual. The vendor’s ancestors were founders of a large timber mill industry in Sweden.
