LOT 85
A group of three posters, comprising ‘Die Deutschen haben 1936 und 1972 bewiesen, dass sie Olympische Spiele organisieren können’, [Berlin?] da kotzt der Bär, 1993, 60cm x 42cm - satirical poster using a quote from Juan Antonio Samaranch, Spanish sports administrator under Franco and president of the International Olympic Committee 1980 2001, and showing the Hitler Olympics of 1936 and a scene from the Munich Olympic massacre of 1972 in which twelve hostages and five perpetrators lost their lives; 'Demo Olympia 18.9.93... Berlin', Berliner Antiolympia Koordination, 1993, 60cm x 43cm - Olympic protest poster for the demonstration against the Berlin bid to host the 2000 Olympics. Berlin had been an early front runner in the contest, but their bid was marred by demonstrations on the 18th September. The vote was held on 23rd September 1993; and ‘Berlin 1936, Argentina 1978 “In den sport soll man die Politik nicht reinziehen”'(You shouldn’t drag politics into sport), [Berlin?] Werk Haus [1978?], 62.5 x 41cm - protest poster published to coincide with the 1978 World Cup held in Argentina, two years after a military dictatorship seized power, showing an image of Hitler embracing Jorge Videla, head of the military junta. The games were awarded to Sydney, all unframed (3).
