An early Victorian Scottish mahogany bracket clock with eight day twin fusee movement striking hours on a bell, the 6¼-inch painted breakarch dial with scene of Abbotsford House to arch above black Roman hour numerals and detailed 'R. Murray Lauder', the arched case with banded inlay decoration, flanked by a pair of brass rosette and loose ring handles, height 39.5cm, with pendulum. Note: Robert Murray is a recorded Scottish clockmaker working in Lauder between 1837 and 1860. Abbotsford House is a historic country house in the Scottish borders, on the south bank of the River Tweed. It was built as the residence of the novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott between 1817 and 1825.
