[WADE, John.] The Black Book; or, Corruption Unmasked! Being an Account of Places, Pensions, and Sinecures, The Revenues of the Clergy and Landed Aristocracy. London: John Fairburn, 1820. First edition, 8vo (225 x 136mm.) Title, advertisement leaf, ‘Index’. (Occasional browning and light spotting, creasing to last leaves.) Original black half morocco over black cloth, t.e.g. (extremities rubbed). Note: on the advertisement leaf it suggests ‘to purchasers, for the sake of uniformity, and as being most appropriate to its name and contents, that the BLACK BOOK be bound in black.’ Indeed, the Black Book was considered to be the Reformer’s Bible as it was a compendium of all the ecclesiastical and state, electoral and legal corruption that they sought to abolish.
