A Lucie Rie and Hans Coper studio pottery stoneware cup and saucer, circa 1958, the cup exterior and upper surface of the saucer with manganese glaze, otherwise with pale grey glaze, sgraffito decoration to the cup exterior, impressed seal marks to base of cup, diameter of saucer 14.3cm, height of cup 6cm. Provenance: from the personal collection of the ceramic artist, the late Eric James Mellon (1925-2014). Note: this piece was originally purchased by Eric and his wife Martina, directly from Rie and Coper, to sell in their gallery in Lyon Street, Bognor Regis.
