A Dutch Delft wet drug jar, early 18th century, the bulbous body with short spout and grooved handle with pointed lower terminal, raised on a short stem and spreading circular foot, painted in blue with a label inscribed 'S De 5 Radic' (Syrup of five roots), surmounted by a pair of peacocks flanking a basket of fruit, the lower part of the painted label centred by a winged mask between fruit garlands, height 25cm. Provenance: Previously in the collection of Sir Harry Jephcott, 1st Baronet, managing director of Glaxo Laboratories, thence by descent.
