LOT 1557
A rare Poole Pottery Sun Face fifteen tile panel low coffee table, circa 1964, painted and designed by Tony Morris, depicting a large sun face and a series of smaller sun faces against a dark ground, held within a wooden frame and raised on four ebonised tapering legs, total dimensions of top panel 79cm by 48.5cm. Provenance: Tony Morris worked at the Poole Pottery from 1963, living in digs near the pottery. In December 1964 he travelled home to New Tredegar in the Welsh valleys on the train, carrying with him this table, and two others of a similar design he had also made, as gifts for his three siblings. The table has remained in the family ever since. A similar example is illustrated by Leslie Hayward and Paul Atterbury, 'Poole Pottery, Carter & Company and their Successors 1873-1998', p.117 and with a detail on the back of the dust jacket. The table illustrated by Hayward and Atterbury was sold by Cottees Auctions Limited in November 2012.
