Numerous engraved plates of antiquities, engraved initials and ornaments. (Lacking title and frontispiece, preliminaries loose, spotting to margins.) Original calf (spine lacking, boards detached). Note: scarce. The first printing of these volumes only ran to 1000 copies and was never sold, only given to chosen recipients. It was later translated into English with the title 'The Antiquities of Herculaneum Exposed'. In its entirety this work proved influential to the rise of neo-classicism, providing artists with Hellenic motifs. The first volume was concerned with paintings, this volume with bronze busts.
