Note: contains a section on the approximate mean times of the transits of the principal stars. - And with a related volume (W.H Thornthwaite 'Hints on Reflecting and Refracting Telescopes', 1878, 8vo) (2).

Later red half-morocco, original marbled paper boards, morocco lettering piece to spine (rebacked, replaced endpapers, rubbing to extremities). Tinted lithographic frontispiece, numerous plates, 3 folding, some in colour, illustrations within text, errata leaf. (Spotting to front and rear leaves.) Original black cloth with pictorial gilt to upper covers and spines (frayed to spine ends of volume 2 and 3, replaced endpapers to volume 1) (3).

(Lacking plate no. 1 'England, Wales' and no. 13 'Essex', browning, spotting to verso, a flower painted in an amateur hand to verso of one plate, disbound.) Original blind-tooled cloth with gilt to upper cover (sunning to spine and loss to spine ends).

HOWARD, Luke. Essay on the Modifications of Clouds. London: John Churchill, 1865. Third edition, 4to (279 x 210mm.) 6 lithographed plates of clouds. (Frontispiece with spotting and loose, occasional spotting thereafter, one gathering loosening.) Original green cloth, gilt-stamped to upper cover, g.e. (extremities bumped, frayed to spine ends). Note: Howard ('the namer of clouds') was responsible for the nomenclature of the categories of clouds that we still use to today.

DALGLISH, Eric Fitch (illustrator). - Viscount GREY of Fallodon. Fly Fishing. London & Toronto: J.M. Dent & Sons, 1930. Limited edition, this being number 94 of 150 copies signed by the author, 4to (250 x 184mm.) 10 wood-engraved plates by Eric Fitch Dalglish, the extra illustration of a leaping trout signed by the artist in pencil, illustrations within the text, integral bookmark. (Marginal browning). Original vellum, gilt fish hook on the upper cover, t.e.g. (minor soiling). - And a first edition copy of the same volume ('Fly Fishing', 1899, 8vo) (2).

Folio (400 x 239mm.) Folding engraved map, frontispiece by J. Bayley, 11 double-page engraved plates and 4 single-page engraved plates (1 folding). (Map torn and repaired with some loss, title page and dedication, torn and rebacked, some other paper repairs, a few small closed tears, one plate with a closed split.) 20th century morocco with five raised bands to spine and two green morocco lettering pieces to the second and sixth compartments (endpapers replaced).

Double-paged engraved title, 41 engraved plates on 22 sheets, 11 double-page. (Lacks dedication leaf, large damp-stain throughout, browning and chipping to front and rear blanks, bookplate to front pastedown.) Contemporary calf (lacking spine, worn). Note: plates numbered 1-30 but with many numbers duplicated.

Portrait frontispiece of William Blake, 6pp. list of subscribers, Blake's dedicatory poem to the Queen, 12 engraved plates by Louis Schiavonetti after etchings by Blake. (Damp-stain to upper margin throughout, minor soiling, finger-marks to title.) Contemporary green half-morocco, five raised bands to spine with red morocco lettering piece to the second compartment (heavily rubbed, some fraying to the cloth). Provenance: J.L. Original half-calf with morocco title onlaid to upper cover (front cover detached, worn).
