Note: dedicated 'To Joan, with love from Daphne, 1971'. - And two more works signed and inscribed by Daphne du Maurier to the same recipient, and a further signed Christmas card from du Maurier. HAMILTON, Patrick. Monday Morning. London: Constable and Co. Ltd., 1925. First edition, 8vo (187 x 119mm.) (Browning, light spotting.) Original red cloth (slight sunning to spine, soiling to lower cover). Note: rare. Hamilton's first novel, written when he was nineteen.

HAMILTON, Patrick. Twopence Coloured. Boston: Little, Brown, and Co., 1928. First American edition, inscribed in ink by the author Patrick Hamilton to the front free endpaper, 8vo (192 x 126mm.) (Toning to margins, corner crease to p.237) Original black cloth (white marks to lower cover, lightly bumped to extremities). Note: the inscription by Hamilton reads 'To Lois, from her own private novelist, Patrick, 9th August, 1930'. Above the first page of the novel he has also written 'Dearest Lois - how are you getting on? I don't know whether you'll be at all interested but I must tell you that… [an arrow points to the first sentence of the novel 'Shortly before midnight…']. At the end of the novel Hamilton has then written 'Well - no more at the moment. See you Saturday - your loving Patrick. P.S. I adore you, darling. I adore you'. Lois was Hamilton's first wife. They married in 1930.

First collected edition, inscribed in ink by the author Patrick Hamilton to the half-title, 8vo (183 x 116mm.) (Browning, a crease to the preliminaries.) Original red cloth (slight sunning to spine, a split to rear joint). Note: the book is inscribed by Hamilton using his pet name 'Disraeli'. It reads 'For Lois, with love from Disraeli'. Lois was Hamilton's first wife and they married in 1930. Hamilton dedicated the 'The Siege of Pleasure' to her and after their divorce he continued to write affectionate letters to her.

HAMILTON, Patrick. The Siege of Pleasure. London: Constable, 1928. First edition, inscribed in ink by the author Patrick Hamilton on the half-title, 8vo (189 x 120mm.) (Browned to margins, a bookplate carefully removed from front and rear pastedowns.) Original black cloth (chipped to top of spine, gilt lettering faded, discoloured to tail of spine). Note: the inscription from Hamilton reads 'For Lois, with love from Disraeli'. Lois was Hamilton's first wife and 'Disraeli' the pet name he used with her. This book was written while they were courting and is dedicated to her. They married two years later, in 1930.

HAMILTON, Patrick. Hangover Square. London: Constable, 1941. First edition, 8vo (186 x 119mm.) (Light spotting to pastedowns.) Original beige cloth (lightly browned). Note: perhaps Hamilton's most acclaimed novel.

HAMILTON, Patrick. Mr Stimpson and Mr Gorse. London: Constable, 1953. First edition, inscribed in ink by the author Patrick Hamilton to the title page, 8vo (183 x 116mm.) (Browning to margins.) Original blue cloth, the 'Book Society' wraparound present (some fading and staining to covers), dust-jacket (with tears, some loss to top of spine). Note: the book is inscribed by Hamilton using his pet name 'Disraeli'. It reads 'For Lois, with fondest love (more than ever), DISRAELI'. Hamilton has underlined the word 'ever'. Lois was his first wife. They married in 1930 and Hamilton dedicated 'The Siege of Pleasure' to her. He continued to write affectionate letters and sent copies of his books to her long after they divorced.

(Light spotting to front free endpaper.) Original blue cloth (fading to spine, bumped to extremities), dust-jacket (large tear, loss to lower half of front and spine). Note: the inscription from Hamilton reads 'For Lois, with fondest love from DISRAELI' and underneath he adds 'Disraeli is the operative word, 7.8.51'. Lois was Hamilton's first wife and 'Disraeli' the pet name he used with her. Long after their divorce, he was sending her affectionate letters and signed copies of his books.

POP-UP BOOK. - Ronald KING. Alphabeta Concertina. Guildford: Circle Press, 1984. Limited edition, this being one of 1000 copies, second printing (155 x 100mm.) An accordian style pop-up which when expanded shows each letter of the alphabet on one continuous folded leaf. Original boards in red and white to front and back, acetate box (small splits to the box).

MILNE, A. A. [The Christopher Robin Books.] London: Methuen & Co., Ltd., 1927-1928. 4 vols., mixed editions, 8vo (185 x 116mm.) Illustrations by E.H. Shepard. (Light browning.) Contemporary calf, monogram in gilt of A.A. Milne to the upper covers, gilt figures from the books to the spines, g.e. original glassine dust-wrappers (browning, mild chipping), contemporary card box (rubbing to corners). Note: 'Winnie-the-Pooh' is the fifth edition, 'When We Were Very Young' the sixteenth edition, 'The House at Pooh Corner' and 'Now we Are Six' are first editions. Provenance: R.W. Wimberley (name in ink to underside of box).

MCLEOD, N. Illustrations to the Epitome of the Ancient History of Japan. Tokyo: 1879. Inscribed by the author, third edition, oblong folio (167 x 269mm.) 3pp. of text in English, 43 leaves with 77pp. of copper-engraved plates. (Initial blank with the inscription and title page are loose, 1 leaf loose, some browning). Original limp cloth covers (minor surface loss). Provenance: General Cunicliffe (Inscribed by the author 'To General Cunicliffe, with the author's compliments, Yokohama, 24th June 1884').

PHOTO-BOOK. - Alexey BRODOVITCH. Ballet… Text by Edwin Denby. New York: J.J. Augustin, 1945. Limited edition, this one of 500 copies, oblong 4to (214 x 277mm.) 104 black and white photographs by Brodovitch. (Mild toning.) Original boards, French-fold dust-jacket (pasted down at rear, some chipping, minor soiling). Note: scarce. Using a 35mm Contax camera, Brodovitch took photos depicting, among others, the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo and produced mainly blurred images of moving dancers - which he then exaggerated using high contrast paper and other techniques, thereby producing one of the most innovative photobooks in the history of the genre.

Numerous plates with tissue-guards. (Marginal damp-stain to preliminaries of volume 1 and frontispiece loose to same volume). Original black cloth, gold lettering to the 'Arabian Nights', silver lettering to the supplementary volumes (bumped to extremities, some fading) (17).

DALZIEL BROTHERS (engravers). A Round of Days - described in Original Poems by Some of our Most Celebrated Poets and in Pictures by Eminent Artists. London: George Routledge and Sons, 1866. 4to (256 x 196mm.) 20 wood-engraved plates only, and numerous vignettes by the Brothers Dalziel after T. Dalziel, F.Walker, J.W. North, A.B. Houghton and others. (Spotting throughout, 1 plate missing.) Contemporary blue morocco with foliate gilt within triple fillet borders, five raised bands with lettering to the second compartment, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (rubbed to extremities). - And with eleven more volumes of 19th century poetry (including Edgar Allan Poe's 'Poetical Works' [n.d. but circa 1873], 8vo) (12).
