A Chinese iron red and en grisaille decorated porcelain vase, mark of Qianlong but Republic period, the shouldered tapering body painted with a scene of five immortals and two children, flanked by iron red and gilt seals and opposing an extensive black text and further iron red and gilt seals, the shoulder applied with a pair of moulded bat handles, below a short neck with black and gilt foliate borders, iron red and gilt seal mark to base, height 44cm, with a wood stand.

A Japanese cloisonné enamel vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki, Meiji period, of slender tapering form with short flared neck, finely worked with scattered polychrome flowers, scrolling foliage, flower roundels and butterflies on alternating differently coloured vertical panels, signed 'Kyoto Namikawa' on silver plaque to base, height 15.7cm, with a hardwood stand. Note: Namikawa Yasuyuki (1845-1927) was born into a samurai family in Kyoto. He began his career as a cloisonné artist in about 1868 and worked with the Kyoto Shippo Kaisha (Kyoto Cloisonné Company) between 1871 and 1874, before opening his own studio. He exhibited his work, to great acclaim, at national and international expositions and in 1896 he was appointed an imperial craftsman to the Meiji Emperor.
