Engraved folding map, colour frontispiece and presentation leaf. (Intermittent browning.) Contemporary red velvet-backed mother-of-pearl covers with enamelled plaque after Raphael to upper cover, brass clasp, g.e., contained within a black morocco-covered box (minor stains to box).

BIBLE, In English. The Holy Bible. London: Charles Bill & Thomas Newcomb, 1704. 12mo (133 x 64mm.) OT only, double-column red ruled, engraved title. (Browning, a 2-inch tear to A1, lacking all before A1.) Contemporary black full morocco with engraved silver corner-pieces, bosses and clasps and central piece with crest, dated 1705 on clasp, g.e. (lacking a clasp, silver cloudy).

THEOLOGY. Der Wahre Romisch-Catholische Saltzburger. Saltzburg: Johann Joseph Manrs, 1745. Part 2 [of 2]. 4to (201 x 153mm.) Title in red and black, half-title, black letter. (Browning, marginal spotting throughout.) Contemporary blind-stamped pigskin, leather straps and brass claps (light rubbing, a few wormholes to lower cover, lacking one clasp). Note: an earlier part was published in 1737. A popular Catholic treatise that was intended to strengthen Catholic faith and refute Lutheran doctrine.

(Corner loss to G3 and G6, text slightly affected, marginal loss to L8, text affected, browning, corner creasing.) Near contemporary half calf over marbled paper-covered boards, red morocco lettering piece to spine (light rubbing). Note: scarce.

(Spotting to title and scattered thereafter, last five leaves with marginal insect-damage.) Contemporary calf-backed boards, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (hinges weakened, extremities rubbed). Note: scarce. With chapters on ‘how an actor ought to form himself’, farce, opera, Irish theatre, modern theatre, and ‘Garrick’s different excellencies’.

(Toning, spotting to preliminaries, thereafter occasional and light, one plate loose.) Original green cloth, pictorial gilt to covers and spines (some extremities rubbed, wear at head of spine panel of vol. one). – And a further sixteen volumes (including Thomas Mawe and John Abercrombie’s ‘Every Man his own Gardener. Contemporary half morocco over marbled paper-covered boards, gilt lettering to spine (extremities rubbed, covers heavily, inner hinge weakened).

First edition, 8vo (225 x 136mm.) Title, advertisement leaf, ‘Index’. (Occasional browning and light spotting, creasing to last leaves.) Original black half morocco over black cloth, t.e.g. (extremities rubbed). Note: on the advertisement leaf it suggests ‘to purchasers, for the sake of uniformity, and as being most appropriate to its name and contents, that the BLACK BOOK be bound in black.’ Indeed, the Black Book was considered to be the Reformer’s Bible as it was a compendium of all the ecclesiastical and state, electoral and legal corruption that they sought to abolish.

(slight scuffing, small stain at top of spine, lightly rubbed). Note: this is the first London edition. Provenance: C. Booth (contemporary ink name to half-title).

(Browning, lacking rear blank, marginal loss to one illustration.) Near contemporary calf, red morocco lettering piece to spine (extremities heavily rubbed, some loss at top of spine). Provenance: Newton Charles Ogle (bookplate to front pastedown and ink inscribed to front and rear pastedown); William J.
