A late 19th Century German sword by Otto Mertens, Solingen, with pipe back blade, length approx 80.5cm, struck with 'Erfurt' surmounted by crown at forte and dated 97, steel triple bar hilt, pierced with eagle within circle, banded composition grip, in its steel scabbard (dented).
