John Bentham Dinsdale - 'The Torrens' (Ship Portrait of the Clipper in Full Sail), late 20th century oil on canvas, signed recto, titled, profusely inscribed and Omell Galleries label verso, 49cm x 75cm, within a gilt composition frame with ropetwist moulding. Note: this well-known ship was built by Kames Laing. She was designed to carry passengers and cargo between London and Port Adelaide, South Australia. She was the fastest ship to sail on that route, and the last sailing ship on which Joseph Conrad would serve before embarking on his writing career.
