LOT 1208
A George III mahogany longcase clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the 12-inch brass breakarch dial with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes framing an engraved centre with subsidiary seconds and date aperture, all below an automaton sailing ship to the arch, inscribed 'John Hoidge Tavistock', the hood with moulded arch above a glazed door and turned columns, the trunk with rectangular door, on a plain base and bracket feet, height 207cm, with pendulum and two weights. Note: John Hoidge is a recorded Devon clockmaker working in Tavistock circa 1782-1790, where he repaired the church clock.
