Original blind-stamped pigskin, brass bosses and clasps, original cloth slipcases with pigskin labels to spines. Note: contains the facsimiles of three manuscripts: MS 62 in Leopold-Sophien-Bibliothek Überlingen; MS 2 Stadtarchiv Bremgarten; MS Bibl. Zurl. Fol. 18 Aargauischen kantonsbibliothek Aarau. Provenance: Roald and Pat Knutson (bookplate to front pastedown) (3).

[CAREW, Thomas.] An Historical Account of the Rights of Elections of the Several Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, of Great Britain: Collected From Public Records, and the Journals of Parliament. London: John Nourse, 1755. Folio (423 x 268mm.) Title, double-column text, in 2 parts with separate pagination. (Crease to initial blank, spotting to preliminaries and last leaves, tape repair to hinges, occasional ink underlining.) Contemporary calf, later morocco lettering piece (rebacked, extremities heavily rubbed, staining and scuffing). Note: the first significant work on the subject of parliamentary elections. Carew was an antiquary and M.P. for Minehead. Provenance: George Greenway (ink name to front pastedown).

TOULOUSE-LAUTREC, Henri de. – Claude ROGER-MARX. Yvette Guilbert vue par Toulouse-Lautrec. Paris: Au Pont des Arts, 1950. Limited edition, folio (376 x 289mm.) 37 loose-leaf lithographed plates, 27 in green and 10 in black and white, text leaves. (Lacking 24 plates, occasional toning, and finger-mark, ink date to title.) Original card wrappers in colour, original green cloth-backed covers, mounted paper label to spine (some loss to label). – And two further volumes (Richard Eckstein’s ‘En Costume d’ Eve, Etudes de nu Feminin d’apres Nature’, Series II, [13 plates, of 20], [circa 1920], folio, and Raphael Kirchner’s ‘De la Brune a la Blonde’, [14 plates, of 17], [circa 1914], folio) (3).

Tinted lithographed title with vignette, 26 lithographed views on 17 sheets, letterpress dedication, preface, 8pp. descriptive text by George Couper. (Marginal spotting, one or two plates with spotting to plates, small marginal tear to title repaired.) Original black blind-stamped cloth, gilt lettering (extremities lightly bumped, front endpaper with small repair).

MOORE, Henry. Heads Figures and Ideas. London: George Rainbird, 1958. First trade edition, folio (471 x 329mm.) Colour lithograph ‘Thirteen Standing Figures’ in four colours with Henry Moore watermark tipped-in verso title, numerous colour and black and white illustrations, 3pp. text by Gregory Grigson. (Mild toning.) Original cloth-backed pictorial boards (minor bump, faint spotting to cloth), dust-jacket (extremities chipped, small tears, ripple to upper panel).

STILLINGFLEET, Edward. Origines Britannicae, or, the Antiquities of the British Churches. London: M. Flesher for Henry Mortlock, 1685. First edition, 4to (317 x 188mm.) Title in red and black. (Toning, marginal damp-staining to several leaves, marginal ink annotation, blanks replaced.) 19th century half calf, t.e.g. (extremities rubbed, scuffing and fading to covers). – And a further two volumes (William Betham’s ‘Genealogical Tables of the Sovereigns of the World’, 1795, folio, and Thomas Mallory’s ‘The Story of Elaine’, illustrated by Gustave Doré, 1871, folio) (3).

Oxford: at the Clarendon Press, by Dawson, Bensley, and Cooke, 1806. Title. (Occasional spotting, marginal spotting to first leaves.) [Bound with:] A New Version of the Psalms of David. London: for the Company of Stationers, 1807. (Toning.) 4to (286 x 220mm.) Contemporary red morocco, g.e. (some fading and discolouring, scuffing). Provenance: Corporation of Bedford (gilt to upper cover). – And a further four copies of the same volume (5).

MANUSCRIPT. [Two account books for a delivery and waste-disposal company operating around Hove and Brighton. N.p.: 1933-1945.] 2 vols., 332pp., manuscript, folio (468 x 290 and 418 x 280mm.) Numerous entries in ink, a single legible hand relating the date, the detail of the job, and price paid. (Some dust-soiling.) Contemporary vellum and brown cloth (soiled, bumped, scuffing to covers). Note: each job is given one line of practical information: the delivery or disposal of something from one place to another. This means many roads in Brighton, Hove and Portslade are referenced as well as ‘Roedean’, ‘Grand Hotel’, ‘Wrens’, ‘King Alfred’, and ‘Dreadnought’ (garage?). The entries covering the war years are interesting. There are many jobs referring to the clearing away of rubble and glass (2).
