A George III mahogany musical longcase clock with eight day three-train movement striking hours on a large bell and chiming on a nest of twelve smaller graduated bells and twenty-four hammers with pull repeat mechanism, the 13¼-inch brass breakarch dial with silvered chapter ring, matt centre with date aperture and silvered plaque, inscribed 'Henry Williams, Lancarvan', cornered with gilt urn, eagle and scroll spandrels, all beneath a three-section silvered arch displaying three of six rolling painted scenes, the hood with broken arch pediment, brass ball and spire finial and pierced fret panels above a glazed door and turned columns, the trunk with shaped arch door, on a plain base and bracket feet, height 228cm, with pendulum and three black painted lead weights (some faults). Note: Henry Williams of Lancarvan (1727-1790) is regarded as one of Wales finest clockmakers, working from his little workshop in the rural Vale of Glamorgan. He was known for producing high quality clocks and was also a successful farmer.
