A mid-18th century burr walnut longcase clock, the brass five pillar eight day movement striking hours on a bell, the 12-inch brass breakarch dial with strike/silent indicator to arch above a silvered chapter ring framing a matt centre with silvered subsidiary seconds, date aperture and applied name plate, inscribed 'Lewis Miraut London', all cornered with cast and pierced gilt spandrels, the square hood with moulded pediment above a glazed door and turned columns, the trunk with arched door above a stepped base and plinth, height 232cm, with pendulum, two weights and winder. Note: Lewis Miraut appears to have used variant spellings of his surname, including Mirau, Mireau and Mirreau. He is recorded as a London clockmaker active in the mid-18th century, working from Langley Street, Westminster, and St Martin-in-the-Fields.
