John Drummond – ‘Gateway of India, Mumbai’, 20th century watercolour, signed recto, titled label verso, 27cm x 32.5cm, within a gilt frame. Note: John Drummond was a prominent figure in the world of design, born in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. After serving in India with the RAF during WWII, he studied Printed Textiles under Dora Batty at the Central School of Arts & Crafts. Drummond's talents garnered international recognition, with commissions in the UK and the USA for esteemed companies such as Cole's Wallpapers, Sanderson's and Katzenbach & Warren. Additionally, he created striking silk panels, murals, and decorative glass panels for institutions worldwide, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of interior design. Drummond's legacy also includes his contributions as a part-time tutor at notable institutions, including Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art.
