An Edwardian silver two-handled presentation cup and cover of urn form with acanthus leaf scroll handles, on a domed foot and square base, the body engraved with a crest and motto 'Tria juncta in Uno' opposing an engraved presentation 'To H.E.S Sir Herbert Stanley K.C.M.G on the occasion of their visit to Livingstone in 1926 from Athlone & Alice', the cover with acanthus leaf finial, London 1904 by D. & J. Wellby, weight 1311g, height 30.5cm. Note: this cup was presented to Sir Herbert Stanley by the 1st Earl of Athlone (1874-1957) and his wife Alice. The Earl of Athlone served as Governor General of the Union of South Africa from 21 January 1924 to 21st December 1930. On 1st April 1924, Northern Rhodesia became an official Protectorate of the United Kingdom with Livingstone as its capital. Sir Herbert James Stanley (1872-1955) was appointed His Majesty's Governor of Northern Rhodesia (1924-1927) and later Governor of South Rhodesia (1935-1942).
