(One plate torn at fold, slight marginal loss to frontispiece, occasional contemporary 'x' marks in ink, some creasing, browning.) Contemporary calf, title to spine (rubbing to extremities, slight loss to spine ends, title faded). Engraved vignette to title, titles in red and black, initials, staves to rear, engraved colophon, 19pp. blank to rear. (Contemporary underlining in ink, damp-stain to lower margin throughout, browning, a typed-written two paragraph insert explaining the history and meaning of the 'Caeremonialis Episcoporum' tipped-in to the front-free endpaper.) Contemporary calf, elaborate blind-tooled decoration around a gilt foliate lozenge to upper and lower covers (rubbed, spine missing). (Damp-stain to inner top corner of all leaves, some other minor soiling.) Contemporary speckled calf (slightly scuffed, loss to spine end, one preliminary blank loosely inserted).

THE NOVELIST'S MAGAZINE. - Miguel de Saavedra CERVANTES. The History and Adventures of the Renowned Don Quixote. London: for Harrison and Co., 1782. 4 parts in 1 vol., 8vo (206 x 119mm.) 14 engraved plates by Stothard. (Occasional browning.) Contemporary calf, six compartments to spine with raised bands, red and green morocco lettering pieces to the second and third compartments, elaborate gilt to the rest (rubbing to extremities). Note: this is vol. 8 from 'The Novelist's Magazine' and includes a complete edition of 'Don Quixote'.

[Bound with:] Two right profitable and fruitfull concordances. London: Robert Barker, 1607; [Bound with:] The Whole Booke of Psalmes. London: 1607. 8vo (222 x 154mm.) (Lacking Old Testament title-page and all leaves prior to ¶3, somewhat affected by damp, many leaves torn with varying degrees of loss, worst to New Testament title and preceding leaf, some loss replaced or reinforced with blank paper, worm damage to first 129pp. often affecting text, some browning and ink staining.) Contemporary calf, the spine later dated 1615 in gilt, brass bosses and clasp (rebacked and reinforced under original calf, one clasp lacking the other replaced, some brass mounts replaced).

[Bound with:] The Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments. Cambridge: Thomas Buck and Roger Daniel, 1637. With 7pp. of tables. [Bound with:] A Brief Concordance or Table to the Bible of the Last Translation… by Mr John Downames. London: Assignes of Clement Cotton, [n.d.]. [Bound with:] The Booke of Psalmes. [N.p; n.d. but London: Christopher Barker]. 4to (210 x 152mm.) (Old Testament lacking the first general title, slight loss to Z8 (OT) and H5 (Apocrypha), some shaving to 'Concordance' and to entire headline of 'Book of Common Prayer', blank last leaf of OT (Qq8) with hand-written family history, minor paper repairs, blank leaf to 'Common Prayer' laid-in, browning and minor soiling, endpapers replaced). 17th century calf, gilt title to spine (rebacked, endpapers replaced). General title in red and black. (Occasional browning.) Contemporary black diced morocco, gilt borders to both covers, g.e. (rubbing to extremities). Provenance: Joshua Smith (bookplate to front pastedown).

BIBLE, In Latin. [Biblia ad vetustissima exemplaria nunc recens castigata]. Venice: Altobellus Salicatius for heirs of Nicolai Beuilacquae, 1574. 4to signed in 8s (211 x 148mm.) Several hundred woodcuts within text, historiated initials, head and tail-pieces. (Lacking title, preliminary and rear blanks, 2pp. of initial text [i + ii], lower margins stained throughout, especially Aaaa to rear, damp-stain from A to M4, some insect damage to upper margins). 17th century calf (spine lacking). MILITARY. - Ian HAMILTON. Jean - a Memoir. London: [privately printed], 1941. First edition, signed by the author, 4to (239 x 164mm.) Numerous colour and black and white illustrations. (Mild toning.) Original patterned boards (rubbing to spine ends), dust-jacket (browning, chipping to upper edge). Provenance: Roderick Jones (affectionate presentation inscription from the author to front-free endpaper). Note: General Sir Ian Hamilton led the failed attack on Gallipoli in the First World War, but also saw extensive service in the Boer Wars, Bengal and Japan and was also chief of Staff to Lord Kitchener. This memoir of his wife, Jean, was later republished by Faber.
