London: Robert Barker, 1613. Black letter, double-column, woodcut initials and ornaments, both general and NT title with woodcut decorative borders, NT dated 1614, includes Apocrypha and John Speed's 'Genealogies', double-page woodcut map of Canaan. (Browning, some corner creasing, marginal tears between T2-T4, soiling to U7, a two inch tear to NT title, spotting to Fff3, large tears between Nnn6-Nnn7.) [Bound with:] ['The Book of Common Prayer'. London: N.p. but Robert Barker.] (Lacking title and lacking leaves before B1, browning.) [Bound with:] 'Two right and profitable and fruit-full Concordances'. London: Robert Barker, 1615. (Marginal damp-staining, some corner creases.) [Bound with:] 'The Whole Book of the Psalmes'. London: for the Company of Stationers, 1618. (Lacking several leaves to rear, browning, soiling, last two leaves F6-F7 with some loss.) 4to (214 x 155mm.) Contemporary calf with bronze corner-pieces and bosses (surface loss, lacking clasps, 19th century reback over original spine). Note: the first black letter quarto edition of the King James version. BIBLE, in Latin. [Biblia: cum Summariorum apparatu pleno quadruplicique repertoire insignata.] Lyon: Jacobi Saconi, 1500 [but 1515.] 8vo (168 x 110mm.) 'Tabula alphabetica', woodcut initials and numerous woodcuts within text, 1 full-page woodcut, dated to colophon at RR4, 79pp. of 'Interpretationes' to rear. (Lacking title-page, large tear to a1, damp-staining throughout, lacking two leaves m1-m2, marginal losses to A7 and F1, browning, occasional spotting, intensely annotated in near contemporary hand, blanks replaced.) Early 20th century brown half morocco over marbled paper-covered boards, green morocco lettering piece to the spine (light rubbing). Note: the colophon reads 'in officina Jacobi Saconi, anno Domini decimo quinto supra millesimum, duodecimo kalendas octobris' but lacking the word 'quingentesimo' after the word 'Domini' the book has mistakenly been thought to have been published in 1500.

London: Bonham Norton and John Bill, 1625. General title and NT title within woodcut decorative borders, NT dated 1624, black letter, with Apocrypha, with 34pp. of John Speed's 'Genealogies' to rear. (GT and first quire loose, textblock nearly wholly cracked until R8, browning.) [Bound with:] 'Two right profitable and fruitful concordances'. London: Bonham Norton and John Bill, 1622. Title, colophon dated 1621. (Occasional browning.) [Bound with:] 'The Whole Book of the Psalmes'. London: Company of Stationers, 1625. Title with woodcut device, last leaf G5. (Tears with some loss to last two leaves, browning.) 4to (214 x 146mm.) Contemporary calf (covers detached, spine lacking, worn). (Occasional browning, marginal damp-staining between D2-E6 and between Rrrr3-Rrrr5, printing error to Cc2, a few marginal paper repairs, larger repair to Ggg3, lacking rear four leaves of the 'Tables' to rear, Fffff-Fffff4, two small holes to Adam & Eve frontispiece, unidentified name inscribed verso NT title.) Geneva: 1562- (1561).] Second edition, first in folio (332 x 221mm.) Woodcut map of the Holy Land, numerous woodcut illustrations in the text, initials, table to rear. (Lacking both OT and NT titles and 40 leaves, including all before dvi, lacking GGiii-HHiii and all leaves after the second leaf of the first table to the rear, TTvi, leaves qqvi-si replaced with leaves of an early to mid-18th century edition, several leaves with large loss and tears, some marginal annotation in 17th century hands, corner loss to several leaves, text affected, browning, marginal damp-staining.) Near contemporary calf (worn). Note: contains the error in Matthew ch. 5, v.9 'Blessed are the Place-Makers'. [Herbert 116].

London: the company of Stationers, 1649. 4to (221 x 153mm.) General and NT title red ruled and within woodcut borders, decorative woodcut initials and ornaments, without Apocrypha as issued, with separate title for 'The Whole Book of Psalmes'. (Lacking all before general title at A1, front and rear blanks replaced, browning throughout, occasional marginal damp-staining, some trimming to upper margins, no loss to headline words.) 20th century black morocco with engraved late 17th century silver bosses and clasps and silver name-plates to covers, a simple floral fore-edge painting (some fading to the painting). Note: the fore-edge also has in manuscript hand a reference to John Cha. 5, verse 39, 'Search the scripture'. The verse itself reads 'Search the scripture, for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me'. Provenance: Jane Papillon (name engraved to name-plate on upper cover with date '1695'.); Jane Ranstorm (name engraved to name-plate on lower cover, possibly a gift from her to Jane Papillon). BIBLE, In English. The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments. Oxford: Clarendon press by Samuel Collingwood and Co., 1821. 8vo (190 x 122mm.) (Toning, front-free endpaper loosening) Contemporary black morocco, blind-tooled and gilt scrolling to covers, g.e. (rubbing to extremities). Note: Edward King's copy. When Bishop of Lincoln, King had been considered an 'Anglo-Catholic' and was accused of 'ritualistic practices' including the use of candles and incense. Eventually, his practices were upheld and in 2010 the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, called the prosecution of King an embarrassment to the church. Provenance: Anne Heberden (gift inscribed to on the initial blank); E.C. Andrewes (gift inscribed to on the initial blank). Edward King, Bishop of Lincoln (bookplate on the front pastedown).

London: [Amsterdam?] Deputies of Christopher Barker, 1599. 'Breeches Bible', 4to (204 x 156mm.) General title within decorative woodcut border, woodcut maps and illustrations within the text, initials, NT title within decorative woodcut border, 'Psalmes of David', without Apocrypha (as often), 'Book of Psalmes' to rear. (Marginal paper reinforcement from A1-A8 and to last two leaves G6-G7 of 'Book of Psalmes', 17th century family history in ink to additional title, occasional soiling and annotation, small corner loss to Ccc8, text affected, trimming with slight loss to marginal notes Ee4-Ee6, lacking initial blank and last leaves to 'Book of Psalmes'.) Late 19th century polished calf, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (rubbing to extremities, especially lower joint, endpapers replaced). Note: 'Breeches Bible' with the error at Genesis 3.7. Likely to have been published in Amsterdam for distribution in the Low Countries, and this is one of the earliest such copies, as it contains the errors identified by Herbert including those in 'Song of Soloman', v. 3, 'defile' for 'put'; Isaiah xxx. 32 'beards for harps'; xxxvi. 12 'thing' for 'dung'; Matthew, xxiv. 50, line repeated. Provenance: James Morris (name inscribed to front-free endpaper). [Herbert 248].
