Wilford, 1720. 8vo (193 x 114mm.) Engraved portrait frontispiece of the Duke of Ormond, appendix to rear and 1p. publisher's advertisement verso last leaf. (Occasional corner crease, text affected by spotting to N8, occasional thereafter.) Contemporary panelled calf, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (moderate rubbing to extremities, upper cover loosening). Note: the supplement to Clarendon's 'History of the Rebellion and Civil Wars in England' published 1702-04. Provenance: Mary Catharine Burt (ink name to front pastedown); L.C. TRAVEL & EXPLORATION. - Charles Colville FRANKLAND. Travels to and From Constantinople in 1827 and 1828. London: Henry Colburn and Richard Bentley, 1830. 2 vols., second edition, 8vo (214 x 124mm.) 16 aquatint plates, including 2 with hand-colouring and several folding, 11 wood-engraved plates, 3 maps and 1 plan. (Occasional browning, toning, short tear to 1 map.) Contemporary half calf over marbled paper-covered boards (tape re-enforcement to hinges, upper cover of volume 1 loosening, rubbing to extremities, burn mark to spine of volume 2). Provenance: United Service Institution (bookplates to front pastedown, signed by or on behalf of the publisher's Colburn and Bentley). - And a related volume (John Auldjo's 'Journal of a Visit to Constantinople and Some of the Greek Islands', 1835, 8vo, with two leaves in facsimile) (3).

GREENAWAY, Kate (illustrator) and Mrs. Sale BARKER. Kate Greenaway's Birthday Book for Children. London: George Routledge and Sons, [1880.] First edition, signed by Kate Greenaway, 24mo (88 x 89mm.) 12 colour plates, numerous uncoloured illustrations, turquoise endpapers. (Mild toning.) Original beige pictorial cloth, lettering to upper and lower covers (browning). Note: the inscription reads: ['Presented to'] 'Jane Locker, by Kate Greenaway, Rowfant, 25th August 1880'. Jane was the wife of Frederick Locker-Lampson. Kate's involvement with the Locker-Lampson family was greatly beneficial to her career and Frederick introduced her to artistic and literary circles in London. Later, Greenaway replaced the friendship and mentoring of the Locker-Lampsons for the company of John Ruskin. His advice proved a disaster for her career and confidence. Provenance: Jane Locker (signed to in ink by Kate Greenaway); 'Lilian' (gift inscribed to her by Laurence [Hodson], book collector).
