EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED. - John EVELYN. Memoirs , Illustrative of the Life and Writings of John Evelyn… comprising his Diary , from the Year 1641 to 1705-06, and a Selection of His Familiar Letters. London: for Henry Colburn, 1819. 2 vols. in 5. Second edition, 4to (294 x 203mm.) 1 folding genealogy, 10 engraved plates, including 2 double-paged plans and extra-illustrated with 168 engraved plates mounted on 163 sheets, mainly portraits, including 1 folding plate. (Some marginal spotting to text leaves, browning, offsetting.) Contemporary maroon straight-grain morocco blind-tooled and with rolling gilt foliate within fillet borders, elaborate corner-pieces, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (rubbing to extremities, spine cover repair to volume 4). Note: including an engraving of Erasmus after Holbein [1682]. Provenance: 'Fauntleroy' (ink name inscribed verso the front-free endpaper of volume 1); Thomas Hodgson (ink name inscribed on the front pastedowns); Edward Salvin Bowlby (armorial bookplate to the front pastedowns).

EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED. - Daniel LYSONS. The Environs of London: Being an Historical account of the Towns, Villages, and Hamlets Within Twelve Miles of that Capital Interspersed with Biographical Anecdotes. London: for T. Cadell and W. Davies, 1810. 2 vols. in 8. Second edition, large 4to (335 x 246mm.) 2 engraved vignette titles, 28 plates as per list, including 4 folding maps and plans and a portrait of John Dee, and extra-illustrated with an additional 693 engraved portraits and views mounted on blank leaves, including approximately 19 from the 17th century. (Occasional browning and spotting to margins.) Near contemporary straight-grain green morocco with gilt vignette to covers within blind-tooled and fillet borders, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (some rubbing and to extremities and occasional scuffing, upper cover to volume 6 detached). Note: among the extra-illustrations are an engraving of Thomas Cromwell after Hans Holbein the Younger [1653], one of Charles I as a young Prince [1613], King James II [circa 1630], Henry VII [circa 1640], Thomas Nott [1678], Isaac Barrow engraved by David Loggan [circa 1670], as well as numerous portraits and views there is 'Nelson Wounded at the Battle of Tenerife, 1797' after Richard Westall [1806] and other curiosities from the 18th century, including 'Peter the Wild Boy' engraved by Bartolozzi, 'A Pedlar with his Dog' and the insides of 'Lollard's prison' within Lambeth Palace.
