EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED. - Daniel LYSONS. Second edition, large 4to (335 x 246mm.) 2 engraved vignette titles, 28 plates as per list, including 4 folding maps and plans and a portrait of John Dee, and extra-illustrated with an additional 693 engraved portraits and views mounted on blank leaves, including approximately 19 from the 17th century. (Occasional browning and spotting to margins.) Near contemporary straight-grain green morocco with gilt vignette to covers within blind-tooled and fillet borders, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (some rubbing and to extremities and occasional scuffing, upper cover to volume 6 detached). Note: among the extra-illustrations are an engraving of Thomas Cromwell after Hans Holbein the Younger [1653], one of Charles I as a young Prince [1613], King James II [circa 1630], Henry VII [circa 1640], Thomas Nott [1678], Isaac Barrow engraved by David Loggan [circa 1670], as well as numerous portraits and views there is 'Nelson Wounded at the Battle of Tenerife, 1797' after Richard Westall [1806] and other curiosities from the 18th century, including 'Peter the Wild Boy' engraved by Bartolozzi, 'A Pedlar with his Dog' and the insides of 'Lollard's prison' within Lambeth Palace.
